CS373 Fall 2020 Week 2: Anshuman Kumar

- What did you do this past week?
This past week, I was mostly adjusting to the rhythm of taking classes and doing coursework again. After working this summer, it definitely took some time to switch gears from that schedule and lifestyle to the one demanded by university work. - What’s in your way?
Right now, my desktop is having issues with installing Docker; I’m receiving Hyper-V incompatibility messages. I’ll look into this when I have more time this week. - What will you do next week?
Next week, I plan on ironing out the issues with Docker and getting started on the project itself. I also have to spend some time doing homework for my Personal Finance class, as well as beginning to work on the first lab assignment for my Natural Language Processing class. I still have to buy some materials for my Behavioral Ethics course, but that shouldn’t take much time to do at all. - What was your experience of assertions, unit tests, and coverage? (this question will vary, week to week)
I’m pretty familiar with the concepts of using assertions, unit testing, and coverage from the time I spent in Object-Oriented Programming last year, but it’s nice to get a refresher on the topics. - How are you doing and holding up? What’s been most helpful for you in terms of support at this time?
I’m doing fine, honestly. My roommate and I talk enough and I’m pretty secure in the future with my signed offer so I’m not worried at all. I’ve just been having difficulties, as stated earlier, in adjusting back to doing classwork and assignments as opposed to working an actual job. - What made you happy this week?
This week I was on a Zoom call with my cooking organization and we all made dinner over the phone and ate together, which was pretty nice. Being able to come together and socialize ensures that the bonds we’ve created aren’t lost as well as the future of the club. With upperclassmen graduating, recruiting new members is critical for the long-term survivability of our club and I’m happy that it is still possible at all. - What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My tip of the week is to make sure that your stress isn’t causing some sort of a feedback loop. Yes, classes are important and so is keeping up with your work, but if you stress too much about them, you can end up causing your performance to go down.
