CS373 Fall 2020: Week 8 Anshuman Kumar
3 min readOct 19, 2020
- What did you do this past week?
This past week I had a lot of exams. On top of the two exams for this class, I had a Behavioural Ethics exam immediately prior to SWE’s Wednesday exam, and then another take-home midterm for my Natural Language Processing class. The take-home exam especially took a disproportionate amount of time to complete. However, at least I’ve finished my first set of midterms for the semester. - What’s in your way?
Right now, I’m spending time working on Postman and the Docker images for the IDB project. However, I’ve been so exhausted from the last week that the work hasn’t really been happening at the pace I need to do it at. At the very least, once I finish the requirements for IDB, I can take a few days off to relax a bit and only attend classes. - What will you do next week?
Like I said, next week I’ll be taking some time off to destress after the week I’ve had. I’ll still have to spend some time on Monday working on the IDB project, but I’m hoping that Professor Downing will actually give us the extra day like that Piazza post requested. - If you read it, what did you think of The Liskov Substitution Principle?
I agree with the idea of the Liskov Substitution Principle. If object-oriented design is a priority, having children classes be relatively interchangeable with the parent classes is important for the overall functionality of your program. This is doubly true for future proofing, so that any new child classes won’t necessitate a refactor of old code just by being created. - What was your experience of Test #1? (this question will vary, week to week)
Test 1 was a lot more reasonable than I remember the tests being when I took Object Oriented Programming last year, but I’m not a fan of having to take effectively 3 hours over 2 days for a single exam. It would be awful having to have all of those questions be crammed into a single 90 minute session, like we did last year, but I think there was some repetition in those questions that could have been removed — allowing for an overall shorter exam. - What made you happy this week?
I got an Echo Show 5 this week for pretty cheap, and it’s been fun using that to play music and serve as an alarm clock. - What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My pick of the week is probably Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo sauce. It’s got an incredible taste and can really add to chicken you make. I just airfryed some drumsticks with a pretty standard spice rub and had them with this sauce. They tasted just like regular chicken wings, but were healthier because they weren’t deep fried like usual wings.
